Why did Aztecs build temples?

Pyramids were created by civilizations such as the Olmec, Maya, Aztec, and Inca to house their gods and bury their monarchs. Temple-pyramids were the focus of public life and the scene of religious rites, including human sacrifice, in many of their great city-states.
