What is the difference between BLM and Forest Service?

Although the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management were created to maintain forest reserves and mineral rights and grazing leases, their goals have become more similar, and they frequently collaborate on projects with overlapping powers.

In my strictly outside-in looking based experience, BLM thinks they are much more badass than they are. The forest service is on the frontlines of human-land interaction…whereas the BLM tends to be much more involved in commercial-land interaction (think mines, God damned cattle ranches, etc.).

Oh, and there are very distinct boundaries (and even mapping capabilities??) between the two departments.

Think of BLM as a shit agency that has poorer quality land, that they lease to cattle ranchers to enrichen them while giving nothing back, while stealing and selling off our water rights without our knowledge.

The Forest Service, while not innocent in their own right, would certainly put up more of a resistance than the quick commercial-sellout nature of the BLM.

But what do I know. I’m not forest service. I’m not BLM. But I do know this land
