Why did the Aztecs fall?

The Aztecs were susceptible to European illnesses. Smallpox infected the indigenous people, crippling their capacity to fight the Spanish. The plague ravaged the Aztecs, decimating their population and killing an estimated half of Tenochtitlán’s population.
